Alberta Stinson was born on a farm in Greenville, Georgia, on August 9, 1933, to her parents, Shade and Georgia (Tigner) Stinson. She was the youngest of nine siblings. She was named after her maternal grandmother.
Sister Stinson did not attend school until she was twelve years old. Her eyesight was so bad because of scarred tissue, and she could not afford glasses. Unfortunately, at the time, there was no cure for this problem.
After relocating to Cincinnati, she attended school up to ninth grade and had to stop because of her father's sickness. Sister Stinson was determined to get an education. She pursued her GED through the Cincinnati Association for the Blind. Sister Stinson could read, but only if the print was very large, so people had to help her with small print. She got three tutors and passed her GED test in 1982.
Upon a dentist’s visit, he asked her if she knew Braille; she stated, no. But again, she searched and obtained the information from the Cincinnati Association for the Blind. They sent out a teacher, who taught her to read and write Braille. Because she is very independent, she attended a training program formability which helped her to be able to travel alone.
She worked as a collator and a factory worker. Unfortunately, this environment caused a loss of hearing in her left ear. The machines were very loud. She was also a foster parent to four children and a mom/aunt to nine children of her deceased sister.
She had a very close and supportive family. They would help her with money-knowing the different currencies; however, at their demise, she had to find another way. Again, through the Cincinnati Association for the Blind, she was able to obtain a reading machine and donated money identifier through her current church.
Currently, her Bible is in Braille, which is very thick. She listens to the Bible on cassette. CD and electronic Bible. Sister Stinson can be seen on local television in a Council on Aging commercial. Sister Stinson loves the Lord and can be found singing in the Hymnal Choir at Good News. At last but not least, Sis Stinson received the peer counselor of the year in 1985.
On August 1, 2025, Sister Stinson received her Heavenly wings.
