Avalon Moore, a beloved husband, father, veteran, craftsman, artist, and devoted servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, at his daughter’s home under hospice care, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Avalon was the son of the late Marion Louise (Lattimore) Moore—one of the original world-famous Lattimore sisters—and Robert Dangerfield Sr. Known affectionately as “Puny” from his childhood due to his small frame, Avalon embraced his nickname and transformed it into a testament to his strength, resilience, and enduring character.
After obtaining his GED, Avalon honorably served in the United States Army as a sharpshooter and hand grenade specialist. His military service instilled in him the discipline and perseverance that he carried throughout his life. Following his honorable discharge, Avalon pursued his passions with great determination, earning certifications in both culinary arts and carpentry. He attended culinary school, where he mastered the art of cooking, bringing joy to family and friends with his delicious meals.
Avalon was a man of many talents, using his carpentry skills to help others by doing home repairs and renovations. His craftsmanship was evident in the structures he built and the homes he improved. He found joy in passing down his knowledge, teaching his granddaughter how to lay floors, ensuring that his skills and legacy would live on through the next generation.
Beyond his work with his hands, Avalon had an artistic soul and a deep love for drawing—especially portraits that captured the essence of those he cherished. His artwork reflected his creativity and attention to detail, making each piece a reflection of his heart.
A man of deep faith, Avalon devoted his life to Christ as a member of the Church of the Living God under Pastor Ennis F. Tait. When faced with illness in January 2025, he met the challenge with courage and grace, remaining steadfast in his faith. Through his unwavering strength, hard work, creativity, and kindness, he left behind a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Avalon was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his brother Franklin (Richard) Lattimore, his sister Jeanetta Moore, his daughter Avalena Moore, and his granddaughter Ty’onna Barfield. He is survived by his wife, Minerva Moore, his children Dominique Moore, Jamanda Durham-Roberts (Charles), and Tyhisha Moore, and step children LaTonya Williams and Terrell Moore as well as 17 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters Mary Moore, Mae Moore-Arbuckle, Debbie Cole, Sophie Stanford, his brother Donald Moore, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, extended family, and close friends who cherished him.
Avalon’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his service, his crafts, his art, and his unwavering love for family and faith. His memory will forever be treasured by all who knew him.
