It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce B. Walton, Sr., who gained his wings to be with the Lord on June 29, 2025, at the age of 76. Bruce was born on March 25, 1949, in Springfield, Ohio, to the late John Walton and Ella Mae (Walton) Allen. He grew up in this beloved city, where he forged many friendships and cherished memories.
A proud graduate of North High School, Bruce dedicated many years of his life to hard work and service. His career began at Wickham Piano Plate Company, where he contributed greatly until it unfortunately went out of business. Bruce then continued his journey as part of Johnson and Johnson Janitorial Services, serving Wright State University among various other janitorial roles. He was known for his work ethic and reliability up until his retirement. In addition to his day jobs, Bruce also served as a lifeguard at the YMCA on Center Street—a role that spoke to his spirited nature and care for others.
Bruce was a man full of life, laughter, and love. He had a passion for fishing and found joy in the simplest pleasures of spending quality time with family and friends. Known as the life of the party, he could always be counted on to bring laughter with his singing and dancing. His enthusiasm extended to watching movies and sports, as ardent fans of both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.
Faith played an integral role in Bruce's life. He dedicated himself to the Lord and was baptized in Buck Creek River. Throughout his spiritual journey, Bruce attended several small churches before finding his true home at Second Baptist Church, where he was baptized for a second time and remained a devoted member until his passing.
Bruce’s warm spirit will live on through the love of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carolyn Tucker Walton, and his dear brother Johnny Walton of Dayton, Ohio. He also shared a bond with siblings David Walton, Evelyn Walton Bradsher, and Marlene Walton Clark, all of Springfield, Ohio. The legacy of Bruce extends to his children, Stacy Walton and Tammy Walton, and his bonus daughter, Shannon (Bennett) Thompson. He is predeceased by his cherished son, Bruce B. Walton Jr., and two sisters, Ruby and Debra.
Bruce was a doting grandfather to six grandchildren: Ashley Hawthorne, Isaiah Moorehead, Jashon Robinson of Springfield, Ohio, and Tyler Hinton, Jasmine, and Emerald Walton of Dayton, Ohio. His heart continued to grow with love as he became a great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to family, Bruce cherished a wide circle of friends, including a special friend from Columbus, Ohio, Audrey (Truss) Phillips, long-time friends Joe Johnson from Milwaukee, and Otis Williams Sr. of Springfield, Ohio. His passing leaves an emptiness that will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bruce B. Walton, Sr. will be remembered not only for the joy and laughter he brought into the lives of many but also for the love he held for his family and friends. His spirit will forever inspire those left behind, reminding us to embrace life's moments, share love freely, and cherish our time together.
A visitation will be held at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield, Ohio, on July 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. All who wish to honor Bruce's memory and legacy are welcome to join in this celebration of a beautiful life well-lived.
