Jean Matelus Michel

Jean Matelus Michel, a devoted father, beloved grandfather, and cherished brother, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Springfield, Ohio, at the age of 56. Born in Grand Goave, Haiti, Jean carried the warmth and resilience of his homeland throughout his life's journey.

The son of Marie Saint-Rose Sylvin and Jean Montelas Michel, Jean built a life rooted in love and family. Though his path led him from the sun-kissed shores of Haiti to the heartland of Ohio, he never forgot where he came from, and he passed that rich heritage on to those he loved.

Jean's greatest joy was his family. He was a proud father to five children: Rosena Michel (Olderson Cela), Calix Michel, Wilsonne Michel, Lixsonne Michel, and Monfils Michel. His eyes lit up in the presence of his granddaughters, Hailey and Riley Cela, who brought immeasurable happiness to his later years.

He is also survived by his sisters, Marie Louise Michel and Sara Michel; his brothers, Jean Emmanuel Michel and Jean Tony Michel; and a host of family members and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and steadfast presence.

Jean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Rosemene Maxis, whose memory he carried tenderly in his heart, and by his parents, who instilled in him the values that guided his life.

Though he has left this world, Jean's legacy lives on in the love he shared, the family he nurtured, and the memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
