Lucinda Levone Smoot (Marshall), 64, of Springfield, Ohio, crossed over into eternal glory on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Lucinda was born on October 23, 1960, in Madison, West Virginia, to the late Leon Smoot and Helen Matthews (Smoot, Toliver). At an early age, her intelligence and drive shone through—she was tested in middle school and advanced a grade, later graduating from Springfield North High School at only 16 years old.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Lucinda worked for many years as a dedicated nurse’s aide. She was well respected in the field for her compassion, work ethic, and care for others. A loving and selfless woman, Lucinda always put her family first. She proudly raised her two children, Conley Smoot and Marquita Thomas, working multiple jobs and countless doubles to provide for them.

To her nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as “Aunt Ninny,” always ready with a smile, guidance, and a warm heart. In 2003, Lucinda embraced her most treasured role—becoming a grandmother, lovingly known as “NaNa.” From then on, anyone who met her would quickly learn of her deep pride and joy in her children and grandchildren.

Lucinda’s life was a true testament of love, sacrifice, and faith. We pray that our Father is pleased with her journey and greets her with the words, “Well done.”

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Conley Smoot and Marquita Thomas; grandchildren, Te’Sean Smoot and Qui’Mariyah Thomas; siblings, Winfred Smoot, Barbara Jean (Thurman) Matthews, Beverly Smoot, Sherry Smoot, and Wendy (James) Williams; uncles, Fred Matthews and Wilson Matthews; step-sisters, Dawnie (Mike Gaines) and Bobbie Toliver; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

Lucinda was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Smoot and Helen Matthews (Smoot, Toliver); stepfather, Robert “Hank” Toliver; grandson, Mark Thomas; brothers, William “Mike” Smoot, Dwight Smoot, and Gregory “Moonk” Smoot; paternal grandparents, William and Grace Smoot; and maternal grandparents, Hiram and Sarah Matthews.
