The Beloved Mercedes "DeDe" Phelps was born on July 2nd, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Alex and Olivia J. Phelps.

Mercedes was baptized at an early age in her childhood church, Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Hughes High School and was the youngest out of 5 children.

For many years Mercedes worked as a Sous Chef for Stouffers, cook at Marjorie P. Lee, Drake Hospital, and Twin Lakes. She loved shopping, watching her Western shows, and spending time with her family and her dogs.

She was a devoted grandmother to Preston and Cameron who she loved and cared for dearly. Anyone who crossed Mercedes' path knew how much of an amazing person she truly was. Mercedes will truly be missed by so many, but never be forgotten.

Mercedes leaves to cherish her daughter, Selene Y. Phelps; son-in-law, Jeff Smith; grandchildren, Preston Phelps and Cameron Phelps; siblings, Charlie, Orlando (deceased), Thomas, and Alexis; best friend, Katie Rue Lorett; and a host of many close relatives in Madisonville and surrounding areas.
